How To Make Air Fryer Hard Boiled Eggs

Making eggs in the air fryer couldn’t be easier! This method will work for 1 egg or 1 dozen eggs, same cook time. No need to pre-heat the air fryer. Here’s the step-by-step method. See recipe card below for printable directions.

  1. What You’ll Need: I start with cold eggs right out of the fridge.
  2. Cook time: I have played around with different times, and found they come out perfect cooked 250F for 15 minutes, without pre-heating the air fryer with a slightly soft egg yolk. If you like a more solid yolk, set your timer for 17 minutes.
  3. Rinse and Peel: Once they are ready, simply rinse them under cold water or place them in an ice water bath and peel.

Note: Test with one egg on your first trial. All air fryers run different depending on the style and wattage. Play around with your air fryer and experiment to see what gives you the best results and let me know how it works out!

No Air Fryer, No Problem!

This air fryer method to hard boil eggs is great, but if you don’t have an air fryer, use my traditional method for making hard boiled eggs instead. If you have an Instant Pot, use my hard boiled eggs in my Instant Pot recipe (they peel so easy!).

Hard-Boiled Eggs Recipes

The ways you can use hard boiled eggs are endless. They make the best snacks with just a little sea salt or everything bagel seasoning. You can make egg salad sandwiches on sourdough toast, add them to a breakfast sandwich, mix them with tuna salad, or potato salad. Turn them into deviled eggs, or serve them on avocado toast, etc.

How To Store

I find it easier to peel the eggs right away. Once peeled you can refrigerate for up to 5 days in an airtight container.

Air Fryer Hard Boiled Eggs FAQs

Do I need to preheat the air fryer?

No preheating necessary for this recipe. Just put the cold eggs straight into the air fryer!

Do you need to use water in the air fryer?

Nope—no water needed! That’s what makes this method so simple and mess-free. In fact, adding water to your air fryer isn’t safe and can damage the appliance.

Why do my eggs have brown spots?

Brown spots can happen when the eggshell touches the hot metal basket or racks during cooking. It’s harmless and only cosmetic! You can prevent it by placing the eggs on a small rack, trivet, or air fryer parchment paper.

My eggs were hard to peel — what happened?

Fresh eggs are harder to peel than older eggs. For easier peeling, use eggs that are 7–10 days old, and make sure to chill them in cold water or an ice bath immediately after cooking.

Can I cook more than 6 eggs at once?

Yes! You can cook as many eggs as fit in a single layer in your air fryer basket without stacking them. The cook time stays the same.

Note

In my opinion, this method doesn’t work as well for soft-boiled eggs because the whites don’t fully set. If you’re after jammy yolks with fully set whites, I recommend sticking to this stovetop method for soft boiled eggs for better results.
